OK…maybe the Spider wasn’t Shelob sizes…but look at the size of it! However, the cave was actually within the perimeter of real deal Jungle. For the record there is very little true technical Jungle in the world…most places you think are Jungle are technically Rain-Forest. On top Of that…aside from Tarzan movies in the 30’s Africa doesn’t have that, much, with most of it in the Congo. So to actually really be in the Jungle was kinda cool. As for the cave…I’m not exactly built for caving…luckily the entrance was rather wide and I did get to see some pretty cool rock formations(my favorite, the one that looks like a Croc’s head) while evading said Giant Spiders. The exit however from what you can see…I was amazed I was able to squeeze through…not the first time that happened…it happened in a much smaller cave in Israel years ago…but that’s a story for another day. Especially since it was the snorkeling and kayaking that I came to Belize for…in The Atolls of  Bite Me…

The large “spider” is actually like a Whip Scorpion (it has no tail or venom) It looks very much like a spider though. It has “large split head” appearance and they actually use their modified thin front legs as antennae to feel their way around and detect prey.

They often carry them at odd angles so that they sometimes look like they have a leg missing or broken.
